About the Service
More Than a Straight Smile
Orthodontic treatment is often sought for aesthetic reasons — and the confidence that comes from a well-aligned smile is a legitimate and worthwhile goal in itself. But the functional benefits of correct tooth alignment are equally significant and considerably less discussed. Properly positioned teeth are easier to clean effectively, reducing the long-term risk of decay and gum disease. A well-aligned bite distributes occlusal forces more evenly, reducing wear on individual teeth and the risk of temporomandibular joint dysfunction. In this sense, orthodontic treatment is an investment in dental health as much as in appearance.
At Aspire’s Orthodontic Clinic, the treatment approach is selected to fit your circumstances — clinical, aesthetic, and practical. Clear aligner systems offer effective correction with minimal visual impact for patients whose priority is discretion. Fixed appliances, where indicated, provide the precision and directional control required for more complex tooth movements. Lingual braces, bonded to the inside surfaces of the teeth, are invisible in normal conversation. The most appropriate system is determined by the clinical situation and what matters most to you.
For patients seeking comprehensive aesthetic improvement, orthodontic treatment integrates naturally with Aspire’s Cosmetic Dentistry offering. Aligning the teeth before whitening, bonding, or veneers ensures the most durable and considered result — restoring on a misaligned foundation compromises both the aesthetics and the longevity of the work. For adults approaching treatment for the first time, we offer both reassurance and evidence: adult orthodontics has never been more common, more effective, or more discreet.
"The right time to straighten your teeth is when you decide to. We have treated patients from thirteen to sixty-three. "
Is This Right for You?
Who Orthodontic Treatment Is For
Crooked or crowded teeth Misaligned teeth that affect confidence, make thorough cleaning difficult, or both — increasing long-term risk of decay and gum disease
Gaps between teeth Spacing that is a source of aesthetic concern or allows food trapping and gum irritation between appointments
Overbite, underbite, or crossbite Bite discrepancies affecting how the teeth meet, with implications for jaw health, wear patterns, and long-term function
Protruding or displaced upper teeth Often a combination of dental and skeletal factors; orthodontic treatment can achieve significant improvement in both function and appearance
Adults considering treatment for the first time There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment where the teeth and supporting structures are healthy — adult orthodontics is a well-established and growing discipline
Teenagers during the active growth phase Adolescent treatment, where the jaw is still developing, can be particularly effective in correcting both dental and skeletal discrepancies
Patients planning cosmetic dental work Aligning the teeth before veneers, bonding, or whitening ensures both a more aesthetic and a more durable long-term result
Patients with relapsed previous treatment Where teeth have shifted following earlier orthodontics, retreatment and a revised retention protocol address both the current position and the reason for relapse
An orthodontic consultation at Aspire begins with a thorough clinical assessment and a conversation about what you want to achieve — not a presentation of what is most convenient to offer. All appropriate options are presented.
What to Expect
Your Orthodontic Appointment
Phase 1
Before Treatment Begins
Your orthodontic consultation includes a comprehensive clinical examination, study photographs, dental records, and a digital scan of your teeth. We discuss your goals, timeline, and lifestyle before recommending a treatment approach. Where orthodontic treatment is to be coordinated with cosmetic or restorative work, the optimal sequencing is discussed and agreed at this stage. There is no obligation, and no recommendation is made before we have the full clinical picture.
Phase 2
During Active Treatment
Clear aligner patients receive a series of custom-fabricated trays, each worn for approximately one to two weeks before progressing to the next, attending for periodic review appointments. Fixed brace patients attend for adjustments every four to eight weeks. Lingual appliances are custom fabricated and seated at a single placement appointment, with regular reviews thereafter. Progress photographs are taken at regular intervals throughout treatment.
Phase 3
Retention and Beyond
The completion of active treatment is not the end of orthodontic care — it is the beginning of retention, which is equally important to the long-term result. Custom retainers — fixed, removable, or both — maintain the teeth in their achieved position as the surrounding bone and ligaments consolidate. Retention is planned from the outset of treatment; retainer condition is reviewed at your routine dental appointments.
Step by Step
Your Orthodontic Treatment Journey
Consultation and Clinical Records
A comprehensive clinical examination, study photographs, dental records, and digital 3D scan establish the full picture of your dentition, bite, and jaw relationship. Where additional imaging is required — panoramic or cephalometric X-rays — these are arranged. For patients planning combined orthodontic and cosmetic treatment, interdisciplinary planning begins at this stage. We present our findings in full before discussing any treatment recommendation.
Treatment Planning and Appliance Selection
Based on the clinical records and your stated priorities, we present the treatment options appropriate to your case — clear aligners, fixed appliances, or lingual braces — with an honest account of what each can and cannot achieve for your specific situation. For clear aligner cases, a digital treatment simulation may be available to preview the expected tooth movements before you commit. Timelines, appointment frequency, and costs are confirmed in writing.
Active Treatment
Treatment duration varies by case complexity and the appliance used. Clear aligners typically range from six to eighteen months for standard cases; conventional fixed braces from twelve to twenty-four months for more complex corrections. Regular review appointments — every four to eight weeks depending on the appliance — monitor progress and make adjustments. We are available between appointments for any concerns that arise.
Completion and Debond
At the end of active treatment, fixed appliances are carefully removed (debonded) and the teeth polished. For aligner patients, the final tray series is completed and any refinement aligners produced where needed. A final clinical review documents the achieved result against the original treatment objectives and confirms the retention protocol. Photographs are taken for comparison with baseline records.
Retention
Custom retainers are provided on completion of treatment. Fixed retainers — fine bonded wires on the inside surfaces of the front teeth — provide passive, round-the-clock maintenance. Removable retainers are worn overnight and reviewed at routine dental check-ups. For most patients, retention is a long-term or indefinite commitment: teeth continue to have a tendency to drift throughout life, and the investment of treatment is best protected by consistent retention.

Patient Stories
Confidence, Aligned
I had wanted straighter teeth for years but assumed that, at forty-one, it was too late or too conspicuous to pursue. Aspire offered me clear aligners, and the results were remarkable — I wore them to work every day and almost no one noticed. My teeth are now straighter than they were at twenty.
Patient Stories
Confidence, Aligned
What impressed me most was the joined-up approach — my orthodontic treatment and the veneers were planned together from the start, so the final result was genuinely considered. The sequence was explained clearly at the outset and delivered exactly as promised. I could not have asked for a more cohesive experience.
Patient Stories
Confidence, Aligned
My son needed braces in his early teens and I was uncertain whether a private clinic would be the right environment for a fourteen-year-old. Aspire was warm, thorough, and genuinely engaging with him throughout — not just with me. The result was excellent, and so was the experience of getting there.
Common Questions
Common Questions About Orthodontic Treatment
-
What orthodontic treatment options are available?
We offer clear aligner systems — a series of removable transparent trays that progressively move the teeth through planned incremental positions — conventional fixed braces with metal or tooth-coloured brackets, and lingual braces bonded to the inside surfaces of the teeth and invisible in normal conversation. The most appropriate system depends on the clinical complexity of your case, your aesthetic priorities, and your lifestyle. All options are presented and discussed at consultation; no single approach is recommended without first understanding your specific situation.
-
Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?
No. There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment, provided the teeth and supporting structures are healthy. Adult orthodontics is more common and more accessible than at any point in the history of the discipline. The principal considerations for adult patients are the health of the gums and bone — periodontal health is assessed before treatment begins — the complexity of the tooth movements required, and the patient’s commitment to the process. We have treated patients in their sixties with excellent outcomes.
-
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Duration varies significantly by case complexity and the appliance used. Mild crowding or spacing addressed with clear aligners may take as few as six months; more complex bite corrections with fixed appliances may require eighteen to twenty-four months. A realistic estimate for your specific case is provided at consultation after clinical records have been taken and reviewed. Treatment timelines that appear unusually short should be questioned — adequate time for tooth movement and bone remodelling is essential to a stable result.
-
Is orthodontic treatment painful?
Some discomfort in the days following each adjustment appointment or aligner change is normal and expected as the teeth respond to the applied forces. This is typically described as pressure rather than acute pain, and resolves within two to four days. Over-the-counter analgesics are effective when needed. Modern clear aligner systems apply more gradual forces than traditional fixed appliances, and many patients report minimal discomfort throughout their treatment.
-
What is the difference between clear aligners and fixed braces?
Clear aligners are removable transparent trays, exchanged every one to two weeks, that guide the teeth through a planned series of positions. They are virtually invisible in use and can be removed for eating and oral hygiene, which preserves cleanliness during treatment. Fixed braces use brackets bonded directly to the teeth and connected by a wire, giving the clinician direct control over tooth movement in three dimensions — which makes them preferable for complex cases involving significant bite correction, rotations, or vertical movement. The right choice depends on the clinical requirements of your case, not simply on aesthetic preference.
-
Can orthodontic treatment be combined with cosmetic dental work?
Yes, and in many cases it is preferable to plan both together from the outset. Aligning the teeth before whitening, bonding, or veneers ensures a more aesthetically considered and a more durable long-term result — restoring on a misaligned foundation compromises both the aesthetics and the longevity of cosmetic work. Some treatments, such as whitening, are best performed after the completion of orthodontic treatment. The optimal sequence is planned and coordinated between our orthodontic and cosmetic dentistry teams at the initial consultation.
-
What happens after orthodontic treatment ends?
Retention is the most important and most frequently underestimated phase of orthodontic treatment. Without retainers, teeth will shift as the bone and periodontal ligaments remodel — this is a biological reality, not a sign that treatment has failed. At Aspire, retention is planned from the start of treatment. On completion, custom retainers — typically a fixed bonded retainer and a removable nighttime retainer — are provided and their use explained in full. Retainer condition is reviewed at your regular dental appointments. For most patients, some form of retention is worn indefinitely.
-
How does orthodontic treatment improve dental health beyond aesthetics?
Correctly aligned teeth are significantly easier to clean effectively — access for both toothbrush and floss improves in proportion to alignment, reducing the long-term risk of decay and gum disease in the areas that crowded teeth make unreachable. A well-aligned bite distributes occlusal forces more evenly, reducing accelerated tooth wear, the risk of fracture under excessive load, and the likelihood of temporomandibular joint dysfunction. For many patients, orthodontic treatment is a preventive investment as much as an aesthetic one.
